Insurance
Insurance isn’t cheap and it’s something we need to try and reduce the risk of something happening and minimise the cost of repair. Sometimes we have to have insurance for legal reasons. It’s always important every year to check that the policy covers your needs and wants. Insurance is one of the things can really add up over the year and if you could do a 5 minute job and save £200 on your bills, wouldn’t you want to compare option to see if your paying the right price and the product is the best suited to you needs.
Automatic renewal can be very costly as you’re allowing the company to charge what they like and you can be literally throwing money away. As life changes, the product may not cover you for items like a new Smartphone or if you have had a change in job. Gas and electric like most things always go up in price each year as well as other insurances year on year as well as something which we have to pay for to keep warm.
Home Insurance
Your property how big or small is your castle and it is critical to have cover for your contents and if you own or have a mortgage on the property you will need buildings cover. Buildings cover will protect the building from subsidence, flooding or general maintenance it also covers if the building collapsed or issues with the roof, floor or walls and windows etc. it will also include the land and ground around the building and the policy may include the garden and garden buildings, sheds and garages. Contents insurance will cover your personal belongings inside the house and when you take these items outside the house. It also covers things in outside buildings again such as garages etc. With home insurance it can also cover for and you can have these as added extras such as business use, pets as well as personal posessions, accidental damage such as spills or burns. Legal cover and adding specific items such as expensive jewellery or bikes or cloths etc.
Again if you compare which takes 5 minutes you can ensure you are paying the right price and level of cover and that its insuring you for all your items and you understand the limitations and exclusions and excesses so that if you ever needed to claim you know that the product is going to do exactly what and why you brought the policy.

Car Insurance
It is a legal requirement to have motor insurance and it is always important to check your existing policy and look at the market, prices are always on the up for all age groups and genders and its expensive enough. A 5 minute comparison can give you a good indication of how much you are paying. It’s good to see if the car insurance covers you for the mileage, job title and the optional extras such as breakdown cover, legal cover etc. Is it cheaper or included on other policies you might have? Does your insurance include no claims protection or uninsured drivers promise? Paying monthly can be expensive so look at all the options and see how you can save by paying with other financial products such as a credit card.

Gas/Electricity
Gas and electric is something we use every day from morning to the evening and thought out the day for warming the house and hot water to charging all our electrical suppliers, most people stay with the big six suppliers (British Gas/ SSE/ N Power/ EDF/Scottish Power) many don’t realise that going with a smaller supplier you can save money and you are protected by Ofgem protection so if the supplier goes bust you will still have your supply constantly. The protection also includes any credit on the account. Smaller suppliers can get better wholesale rates but always check reviews and some suppliers don’t help benefit users such as winter fuel discount or work with existing or new smart meters.
10% of customers that applied to switch via MoneySuperMarket could save at least £302.05, November 2018.
Where a saving can be achieved 50% of people could achieve a saving of £255 on their dual fuel energy costs based on Compare the Market data in November 2018
Save up to £447 on your energy bills: Between 1 Jul 2018 and 31 Dec 2018, at least 10% of people who switched energy supplier for both gas & electricity with uSwitch.com saved £447 or more.
Broadband
If you are in mid contact or your contract is coming to the end, its best to review and check that you’re getting the best price for your broadband and ensure it can cope with all our connected devices. Many home now have smart TVs as well as smart boxes, tablets and Smartphone’s as well as printers and smart devices such as thermostats all requiring high speed and unlimited downloads, it’s always good to check as well as ensuring you are being rewarded and have peace of mind.
It’s also worth checking what you are paying for your landline as a shock to many lots of people still use a landline phone as well as some government benefits also allow cheap access to calls and broadband deals
Have you checked your TV subscription to see what you’re paying for and that you’re using all the channels and facilities available. Some suppliers now bundle mobile Sims and add-ons such as music streaming or video streaming like Netflix or spotify.
Even if you’re in mid contract or it’s cheaper to move to another supplier, always haggle and see if you can speak to the retention team to see if they can try and keep you a customer.
